We had a nice rainfall yesterday with the forecast this weekend for cooler weather and more precipitation. Adam says we had about 17 mm, which is a nice start for the course.
Just walking to the Pro Shop this morning, I could see how the course is greening up already. Combined with that nice post rain smell, I can only think that nice May weather and great course conditions are just around the corner.
Remember that you can book your tee times online now.
See you at the "WOOD"!!

Kingswood Defies Mother Nature

In a move that directly defies Mother Nature, Kingswood Golf and Country Club turned on the irrigation system and created its own rain.
By Wednesday of this week, Adam had the intakes in the La Salle river and turned on the system. There were the usual leaks here and there, but it was nice to see some moisture going on the greens. The course is starting to look green and the buds are beginning to show. With May just around the corner, it looks like golf season is here to stay.

Great April Weather

Here is a shot of our new eagle keeping an eye on the 1st tee.
We have had an excellent start to the 2010 season highlighted by a beautiful weekend the last two days. Our March 21st start was touted to be the earliest by any course in recent memory. One gentleman who played out here that day said he has been golfing 50 years in the area and this was the earliest that he has ever played.
The course has come through in great shape, but the only downside has been the lack of water. Not that we are looking for rain, but the irrigation system should working anyday now. The river is just about low enough for Adam to get the intakes in.

Glenwright Eagles 7th Hole!!!
Crack Pro Shop employee Garrett Glenwright made an improbable eagle 2 on the treacherous 7th hole today at Kingswood Golf and Country Club. Garrett and fellow Pro Shop employee Brett Dorsey looked on in amazement as the young golf whiz deposited his 2nd shot in the hole. To make things even more difficult, wind gusts clocked up to 70 mph hampered play.
Congratulations to Garrett once again for this rare feat as we look forward to more fireworks from the young phenom.

Happy To Be Here
I would like to say hello to all the members and friends of Kingswood Golf and Country Club. My name is Mike Gottfred and I am the new head professional here at Kingswood.
I arrived here after 16 seasons at Carman Golf Club. I look forward to meeting everyone here at Kingswood and will do my best to continue the good work done by my predecessor Brad Keats. I would like to wish Brad all the best in his new endeavors.
There will be a few changes in the day to day operations here in the Pro Shop and most of it centers around our new computerized tee sheet and point of sale system. The biggest change the golfers will see are the ability to book your tee times online and a different slip going to the starter. The process in the shop will be streamlined with a lot less paperwork involved.
If you are reading this, you will have seen that we have a new website for the club. We have a fairly bare boned start, but will be adding to it regularly. The purpose of this blog is to get information and news out to members and friends of the club in a timely manner. Stay tuned as I plan to update the blog regularly during the season.
My first note of congratulations goes to Ron McMorris for a Hole in One last week on the 17th hole. Way to go Ron!!
